CyberSecurity at your home!
Columbus, OH 10TV News came to our office to talk with Matt Enderle about CyberSecurity protection in a residence.
Check out our CEO, Matt, being interviewed on our local CBS station! He lends his IT and cybersecurity expertise to help people protect themselves online at home.
With cyberattacks on the rise throughout 2022, you can never be too careful with your cybersecurity. Matt talks about a couple of things to keep in mind, and gives a few tips everyone can do to make yourself safer:
Hackers aren’t directly targeting you. Phishing consists of casting a wide net and hoping you get just a few—but it only takes a few a bite or 2 to make phishing profitable.
Hackers could also target public infrastructure, such as electrical grids, water treatment plants, and government or corporate internal networks and websites.
Use long, complex passwords for all your accounts, and use different passwords for every service. A data breach in one system could compromise your password used to all your others one.
Use a password manager to automatically generate and store unique, complex, encrypted passwords.
Use 2-factor (2FA) or multi-factor (MFA) authentication for more sensitive logins. A popular 2FA method is to require a password and a 1-time authentication code via text or email.
Make regular backups of your data and photos. Follow the 3-2-1 backup strategy:
Keep 3 backup copies at all times
Keep them in 2 separate locations
Keep 1 offline or on an air-gapped server
Use firewalls to create a secure barrier between you and the internet, where dangers abound.
Use a VPN on public Wi-Fi to protect your browsing and data transfer.
