How to Kill Your Search Engine Ranking

January 25, 2008 | Web Design | One Comment »

One word – FLASH.  If you want to kill your current search engine ranking (or kill your chances of obtaining top rankings put flash all over your web site.  In fact, even make the entire web site in flash!

The only people that can get away with this are companies that have high-power brand recognition – Disney, Pepsi, Lexus and so on.  These companies are not concerned with the top ranking for “Disney World” because they already occupy those top spots.

You may be thinking: well how can they have a web site that is ranked #1 or #2 for all their search phrases that is designed with flash?  The answer – links!  Companies like Disney, Lexus and Pepsi have hundreds of thousands of links that point directly to their web site – making them “untouchable!”

The key lesson here – design a web site that looks nice for your customers/prospects, but one that is search engine friendly.  Check out our web site design services:  SEO Web Design – Dreamweaver Web Design

Writing Content for Two Audiences

November 26, 2007 | Uncategorized | 0 Comments »

When designing and laying out a web site you ALWAYS need to construct it with two audiences in mind: prospects and the search engines.

One of the most fatal mistakes that businesses make is to leave one of these two groups out in the process.

Lets focus on your prospects first, giving you some basic guidelines to follow.

  • Navigation should be clear and easy to follow
  • The web site should not be too flash
  • The load time should be kept to a minimum
  • Your call to action should be obvious
  • The content should be well written and to the point

Now, onto the search engines:

  •  They LOVE content, the more well written content the better
  • They HATE flash and cannot “read” it
  • They love when you have high ranking web sites linking to yours
  • They follow many other specific technical formulas to determine your ranking

When you look at both of them together you need to write your content well, ensure your page is not flashy and make your calls to action a no brainer.  These web sites work 100X better than any other type of web site on the internet today!

Have a profitable Monday!
