A major shift is taking place on the world wide web. We’re moving from a web 2.0 driven world to a web 3.0 one. While this shift is going to take a substantial amount of time it is already taking place.

The key to understanding web 3.0 is to look at browsing and buying habits.  Everyone has limited time, wants information quickly,  in a logical and organized fashion, so they can make the best buying decision.  We also want to be able to access this information from anywhere in the world on a variety of different devices.

Take one device example, mobile phones.  The number of people with mobile phones is increasing at an exponential rate as compared to the number of new people using the internet from a home computer.   How easier can it be to get information then from a mobile device at your fingertips?

Web 3.0 provides people more intelligent information at lighting speed paces allowing them to make the best decisions.  It also allows us to communicate in a variety of different capacities from virtual reality worlds to live streaming video and audio!  Web 3.0 will continue to shape the web!

While listening to this presentation, I could hear some “typing” going
on. The assumption was made that people were taking notes on Mr. Chamber’s presentation.
When I looked around it was quite the opposite. Audience members were glued
to their cell phones — to my left was a CFO of a small paper company, to my
right was another online marketing expert, both of which were on their mobile
phones.

After leaving the presentation, I decided to do some “people watching”
for the next hour in the lobby. What I noticed was fascinating. 8 out of every
10 people had a mobile device that was connected to the internet. They would
be checking emails, surfing the web, even purchasing products!

Why not use a laptop I proposed to several of the participants in my underground
study? “A blackberry is smaller to carry, has a longer battery life and
is easier to use.” How could I argue with that? I was sporting my brand
new Sony Vaio with a 16 inch monitor. I had already run out of batteries twice
while at the conference rendering it useless until I could find an outlet.

The two most popular mobile phones with an easy connection to the web are blackberrys
and Iphones. Both of which continue to put out different “apps” that
help make your life more efficient (and fun) in the little down you may get.

The notion that busy executives are the only ones carrying blackberrys no longer
exists. People from all walks of life are carrying these devices from teens
to senior citizens, the trend quite frankly is addicting. While the blackberry
is more noted for the older crowd, Apple and its recent release of the Iphone
have targeted the younger generation. The Iphone is three devices in one; a
phone, an ipod and an internet device. Sales have been strong and continue to
rise.

So what does this mean to you and your business?

Embrace the revolution that consumers and prospects will be finding your web
site on their mobile phone, browsing your site and hopefully purchasing products!

It’s noted that more than 89% of the web sites on the internet today are not
mobile compliant and will look “funky” when attempted to be viewed
from a mobile device.

Grab a blackberry, or an Iphone and visit your web site to get a first glance
at how your site appears. Does your site contain flash that will not come up?
Is it too wide, do the fonts not show up correctly? Those are just a few of
the elements you want to look for.

The key to making your web site compliant is to have your site coded in plain
HTML site with clear semantic web site code and navigation structure.

Most businesses have grown accustomed to the notion that “flashier is better”,
in this case, the plain janes web site on the internet will rule the day!

Most recently the latest online marketing trend has been web 2.0 marketing.
The essence of web 2.0 has been focused largely around leveraging new and innovative
web sites to create new visitors and prospects to your site with the core concept
of starting a new relationship.

Some of the most popular web 2.0 sites are facebook, myspace, wikipedia and
you tube. While we don’t see this trend going away anytime soon, we do see a
shift taking place in how these sites are being used along with some new players
coming into the game that will further change the way we market online.

2.0″ we started using terms like Web 3.0 and Web 4.0 to demonstrate that
the web will continue to evolve and shift at a rapid pace.

Web 3.0 is going to take the key notion of relationship building and collaboration
to a another level. We see this happening in the first two quarters of 2009.
Using technology, consumers, and businesses are going to continue to collaborate,
network and share information via the web at lightning speed paces. Web 3.0

How quickly can you put up a youtube video that says why you hate a certain
product? How long does it take for that video to find its way to the media and
possibly wind up on CNN? Web 3.0 will allow this to happen at a quicker pace

make its way to the top of stumbledupon.com, second life, or even on 43things.com.
Information is the name of the game. Consumers at drone like paces continue
to visit the web for information.
