Direct Email Campaigns

July 30, 2010 | Affiliate Marketing, Online Marketing, marketing campaigns, web 3.0 | 0 Comments »

Direct email campaigns are a very effective marketing strategy. It’s the next generation of direct mail, just the internet age version. They are an affordable and effective way to reach your customers or affiliates. We use this strategy everyday for our clients. Direct email is powerful because you control exactly who sees your marketing message, so there is no marketing waste.

When deciding who to email, it’s important to research the market. One strategy we use is to find groups on social networks, like LinkedIn and Facebook, that are related to your industry. For example, say you are a company that sells weight loss products. You would look for groups on social networks that were all about losing weight, eating healthy, etc. Compile a list of groups and include contact information of the owner. You want to email the owner of the group because he/she could potentially contact the members of the group.

Crafting the email is an important step, because it cannot sound spammy. No one is going to take it seriously or even read it. Make it friendly and engaging, and offer something for free. Also, make sure the title of the email isn’t spammy, or it might get put in the spam folder or ignored. Be straight forward about the content of the email.

Have a system established for responding to your emails. If you are looking for affiliates, make sure you have affiliate links established and ready to use. It would be very unprofessional to contact people and then take weeks to respond, so be prompt and timely with all responses. When you get a positive response, ask them if they know anyone that would also be interested in your product/service. Referrals are the most effective way to gain customers.

How to Drive Potential Affiliates and Joint Ventures the WRONG Way

March 10, 2010 | Affiliate Marketing | 0 Comments »

In recent posts about affiliate marketing and joint venture marketing I have given you some tips on the best ways to attract potential partners, but this post is actually the opposite.  I want to show you all the different things that drive people away so you don’t make the same mistakes we and our clients have made in the past 10+ years.

Here are nine ways to drive affiliates away (please don’t do these)

  • Offer a ridiculous,  low commission.   Yes the product or service is YOUR baby… but this is not YOUR list.  So take a really good look at and see how much are these potential sales worth?  50% in this industry is now the standard.   I at many times will give 80%.
  • Ask your affiliate to write the email copy.  Give them the copy and allow them to tweak it for their audience, but you need to give them a starting point.
  • Ask affiliates and partners to mail that have a wrong list or target market.  How much do you expect to convert when the list is the wrong audience?
  • Give them the copy at the last minute.   Get them what they need 1-2 weeks in advance.
  • Provide them the email copy in random formats.  Ask them how they want it and deliver it exactly as they requested.
  • Promise them the world.  The bottom line – you cannot guarantee ANY sales.  You can give them stats, but not guarantees.
  • Try to back out of your end of the deal.  If they mailed you and generated 0 sales too bad.  If you agreed to send an email to your list, please fulfill on your promises.
  • Forget to manage/check in with them.  Think about it — your partners and affiliates are commission only salespeople.  If they are working hard for you, treat them well, check in to see how they are doing, offer high commissions.  Those are just a few random ideas for you.
  • Fail to follow up.  It’s all in the follow up. Send them a handwritten thank you note, even a small gift.  Remember, the small stuff goes a LONG way!

A Sure Fire Way to Win & Attract Affiliates — Affiliate Marketing Strategy

January 10, 2010 | Affiliate Marketing | 0 Comments »

One of the top questions we get, day in and day out is:  How can I attract more affiliates?  In this economy having affiliates is critical — I refer to these people as my commission only, virtual sales team.    Attracting affiliates is not necessarily the hard part, but harnessing them and getting them to perform is.    Before I jump into some of the strategies for harnessing affiliates, let me give you my biggest secret to attracting affiliates.  Until now, this has NEVER been reviled and has been kept for our VIP clients only.  You ready for the secret?   Here it is:  treat your potential affiliates like KINGS and QUEENS.

Taking this one step further, I like to do 100% of the work AND retain 100% control of the situation.

Let me give you an example.  You want affiliates to promote a webinar you’re offering.  On the webinar,  you will be giving out some good information then going into a sales pitch for a high priced event — to keep numbers simple, lets say the event is $1000.   If anyone buys that was referred from that particular affiliate you will cut them a check for $500 bucks.     This is an attractive offer for affiliates — $500 bucks a head.    To really get these affiliates excited I tell them:  we’ll also do ALL the work:

  • Customized Landing Pages
  • Several emails for you to pick from (and formatted in html)
  • Opt in Pages
  • Sending reports of sales

Bottom line:  people are lazy and just want to make some money.  So, appeal to this and give them the best of both worlds: easy money.   Keep in mind, that this may sound like more work (and yes it is) but you keep the control.    That means, you know if the landing pages were done correctly (and get to capture all those opt ins)  you know if the emails were crafted and formatted correctly.

When it comes to affiliates, I don’t like leaving anything to chance, and based on our track record with affiliates, they love that we stay on top of all the details and run the show!

Go grab some new affiliates with this new model:  Mr. Affiliate, we’ll do ALL the work AND cut you a generous check!  You in?
