Lately we have often been hearing the terms “Cloud Computing”, “the cloud”, and “virtualization”.. What do these mean and what do they have in store for the future of the internet?
Generally speaking, there is the all encompassing term “the cloud”. The cloud is comprised of 3 services:
- Software as a service (cloud application): Consumer oriented applications where data is delivered to the end user without the user’s single machine having to do the heavy lifting, and the server’s workload is not distributed. Examples of this are Gmail, salesforce.com and Google Docs.
- Infrastructure as a service: Computer operating systems, applications and databases delivered right over the internet without having to install. They give you optimal tech support, because the Infrastructure you are handling is out in the open and ready to receive help by an IT hand.
- Platform as a service: This is for the developers. It gives them access to web based tools that aid in the development of websites. An example of this is Google’s App Engine.
Together these 3 systems work to revolutionize the way consumers, developers and business owners operates their niche.

For the past several months, online marketers have started making predictions about the future of Search Engine Optimization and the trends that will take place in 2011. Now that the year has begun, here are some things that we think will help online marketers make the most of SEO in 2011.
Social media presence – Having your website on social media networks will help improve rankings on Google. If a website has strong presence over social media, it will command high ranking. Thus online marketers need to give high importance to Social Media Optimization.
Twitter is a must – As a means of connecting to the public, Twitter has gained high reputation. It has been observed that Twitter is capable of driving huge traffic. Therefore, marketers must include Twitter while devising SEO strategy.
Coded Facebook pages – With Facebook’s importance growing this year, coded Facebook pages will give your business an edge with an interactive touch, generating leads as well as increasing conversation rate.
Trustbait instead of linkbait – Links coming from independent online sources rather than those links that are contextually linked to a site are better for Search Engines. This refers to Trustbait and is a vital part of online marketing.
SEO to grow more comprehensive – In 2011, the term SEO will need to expand and be more all inclusive.
The demand for SEO will only continue to grow and make the task of online marketers more challenging as well as rewarding.

It can be a struggle to get the results you want from an article marketing campaign. You can post tons of articles, but you want to achieve a great click through rate. Here are some tips that can get more people to click on your web site from an article you posted.
1. Surveys. You need to know the needs and wants of your audience. Conduct surveys and polls. You can even visit forums to discover people’s most common issues, problems and complaints.
2. Do your Research. You can’t just put any old information in an article and expect people to be interested. Really research your topic and get in-depth information that you can share with your readers. Go to online and offline resources. Try interviewing fellow experts in your field.
3. Authenticate. Going along with doing your research, you should also provide readers with proof that you are an expert. Offer readers solid information about why you are an authority in your subject.
4. Keep it simple. A cliche tip, but an important one. Make sure your articles are easy to read and straight forward. Many people are searching for information about something that they aren’t sure about, so make it clear for them.

As you all know, LinkedIn is a social networking site for business. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to market there. You really cannot compare LinkedIn to other social sites like Facebook or Myspace because LinkedIn audiences are only composed of businessmen, CEOs, entrepreneurs, business owners, etc. So if you want to connect with others where serious business is made and generates tons of leads, then LinkedIn is for you.
Even with the popularity of other social networking sites, LinkedIn is still the best site to promote your business. Here are the top 3 tips for getting massive results from marketing on LinkedIn.
#1 Leverage LinkedIn groups
If you have been working on LinkedIn for a very long time, you will agree with me that the best way to generate leads from high-end companies is through LinkedIn groups. Some important groups to consider are those related to social media, marketing and startups. When creating a group, there are two things to consider. One is to create a group name with keywords in to so that Google can index it. Second, there is an option to put your links in the group so that group members can check out your site and send you more traffic.
#2 Answer or ask questions and build your reputation
You are not only limited to post in your groups. You can also join a lot of groups. To build your reputation as a knowledgeable and credible business, answer relevant LinkedIn questions. You can also post questions that you think can entice other people to join.
#3 Building your list
There was a time when LinkedIn only allowed you to add people if you knew their email address. Fortunately, now you can add people through groups. It is much easier to connect to someone even if you do not know; all you need is a personalized and genuine message as to why you are adding him/her. Once you have a huge list of connections, you can simply opt them in for your newsletters, events and etc.
If you follow these important steps, you will clearly see why LinkedIn is best for your business. Make sure to be active on LinkedIn, update your profile, post content and add connections. Now go and grow your business with LinkedIn!

A Pay Per Click advertising campaign is a great tool to get instant traffic to your web site. It is not a good long term SEO strategy, but when implemented correctly, it can offer some great results! Here is a guide to starting your own Google AdWords (pay per click) campaign.
- Go to www.adwords.google.com and click on Start Now
- Use the buttons to indicate the username and password you’d like to use with AdWords.
- You’ll need a Google account to sign in, so use your existing one or create an account.
- Click Create Your First Campaign.
- In the Setting tabs: name your campaign, then select your other settings: audience, language and location, network settings, bidding and budget options, and any applicable advanced settings. Click save and continue.
- Enter your ad copy (keep it simple!)
- Enter your keywords. I suggest you use Google’s help with finding more keywords. Enter your placements.
- Next you’ll need to enter your billing information, set the time zone for your account, and agree to the AdWords terms and conditions.
- Click save and activate once you’re ready!
Tip: If you don’t want Google to continuously charge your card for unlimited clicks, create a budget with a limited amount of funds Google can pull from.

Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is becoming an increasingly popular way of ranking at the top of the search engines. How it works is an advertiser selects specific keywords/phrases and then creates a listing that will show up when someone searches for that phrase. This advertiser will pay a certain amount for each click on their listing. Obviously there are other advertisers that have selected the same keywords/phrases, so whoever is willing to spend the most per click will have the highest rankings.
This might seem like an easy way to get to the top, and it is. However, it PPC will not improve your organic search results. With PPC, your site will show up in the “Sponsored” or “Featured” area. Although that may not seem to matter, there are many people out there that do not click on those sites.
PPC also does not optimize your site. So, when you stop paying for PPC, your site will disappear from the top of the search engines and the traffic it brought in will stop! Also, it’s important to mention that competition is growing, so the cost per click is going to increase over time.
A long-term SEO plan is a better option for most advertisers. You can optimize your site to reflect who you are, and it will improve your position in the regular, organic search results. If you keep up with a powerful SEO plan, your site can get to the top of the search engines and you will have higher credibility. That being said, adding PPC on top of your SEO plan is great way to get some instant exposure.

Being at the top of the search engines is every company’s dream. Pay Per Click can get you there, for a price. And it is only temporary. To get to the top of the organic results in Google takes work, but is more than worth it! Your traffic will increase tremendously and you will be recognized as a leader in your industry. Here are 3 tips for reaching the top of the search rankings.
- Choose keywords that are not too highly competitive. It’s tempting to pick the popular keywords because they are the most searched, but unfortunately, everyone is picking those words as well. You will be a small fish in a big pond. You want the opposite!
- Optimize your page content and html for your keywords. Start with your homepage. Your site should have 3 important tags in the head; they include title meta description, and meta keywords. Don’t clutter your head tags because that will not improve your search ranking.
- Seek out external, one-way, incoming links with the keywords as the anchor text. First off, make sure you submit your site to dmoz.org. Each time you submit a form or email for a link, keep a record. A good place to start is with directories because they will give you a free link without the need to reciprocate. Other great places to get links is from discussion forums and press releases.
